(BATON ROUGE)---State environmental officials are advising those who live along Bayous Lacombe, Big Branch, and Cypress near Lacombe to be aware of and not tamper with monitoring equipment to be placed along the waterways from Monday, October 6, to Friday, October 10. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality said that the monitoring gear is part of a water sampling survey along the three bayous. The officials indicated that they hope to identify suspected pollutants in the bayou that may cause low levels of oxygen. They said they intend to use that information to restore and protect the bayou. DEQ officials added that a bright red, non-toxic dye will be placed in the water to determine its flow and pattern. They added that the water and its color would return to normal by the end of the day. The officials noted that the monitoring equipment will be placed on rebar, fence posts, white PVC poles, or buoys. Eyewitness News Northshore Bureau Chief Doug Mouton is with state officials today as they work in and along the bayous and will have a full report later today on Eyewitness News. |
