(SLIDELL)---The long-awaited Fremaux interchange along U. S. 190 Business and I-10 in Slidell is now officially open, according to state highway officials. The ribbon-cutting ceremonies took place during the mid-morning hours on Monday, October 6. On hand to celebrate the completion of the $21.5 million project were Department of Transportation and Development Legislative Liaison Roy Quezaire, state Sen. A. G. Crowe, Slidell Mayor Ben Morris, and St. Tammany Councilman Greg Bellisario. Officials say the project included replacing the existing two-lane Fremaux/U. S. 190 Business overpass over I-10 with a four-lane overpass, on- and off-ramps to I-10 eastbound and westbound, and the reconstruction of service roads. State officials say that the improvements will ease congestion along Gause Blvd., provide a direct access to the Old Towne neighborhood and Summit Fremaux, and give area residents more access to I-10. The project began back in May, 2006. |
