(SLIDELL)---Both Slidell Mayor Ben Morris and Police Chief Freddy Drennan are asking Slidell residents to keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay over the weekend. They are advising residents that heavy rains in the area could lead to localized flooding and, in the case of areas where the ground remains saturated from earlier rains, cause some trees to topple. They also want citizens to prepare by having flashlights with fresh batteries (in case of power outages), battery-powered radios or televisions, fresh water, non-perishable food, a fully-charged cell phone, and a full tank of gas in the car. Chief Drennan also reminds everyone that driving down a flooded street in such a manner that it pushes water into homes is against the law. If drivers are caught doing this, the chief says, the driver will receive a citation. |
