(NEW ORLEANS)---An Ohio man, who was stopped by Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office deputies and found to be in possession of a handgun, has been found guilty by a federal jury in New Orleans, according to U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. Letten reports that 31-year-old Jefferson Daniels of Cincinnati, Ohio, was found guilty on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He now faces a maximum penalty of 10 years of imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment, according to officials. Letten says that Daniels was arrested back on Friday, March 28, by TPSO deputies during a traffic stop along I-55 in Tangipahoa Parish. He adds that in a search after the traffic stop, deputies recovered a 9-mm Ruger pistol. Letten says that Daniels had a previous conviction for cocaine possession and was prohibited from having a firearm. Daniels will be sentenced on Wednesday. November 12. |
