(NEW ORLEANS)---A Las Vegas man has been sentenced to more than six years in prison in connection with a case where he was allegedly conspiring to deliver Ecstasy pills to a "confidential source" and an undercover St. Tammany deputy, according to U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. Letten reports that 30-year-old Mahir Ansari was sentenced to 78 months of imprisonment for conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute Ecstasy. Letten adds that Ansari also faces three years of supervised release following his prison term and will face additional imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release. The sentencing was on Wednesday, August 6. According to Letten, Ansari conspired with his brother, Azizi Ansari, to distribute Ecstasy to a "souce" and a St. Tammany undercover deputy working the case. He says that on July 19, 2007, Ansari was arrested and the agents recovered some 4,000 Ecstasy tablets packaged together in the hatchback area of Ansari's vehicle. Letten also says that Ansari pled guilty in the case on November 7, 2007. |
