(SLIDELL)---The Slidell Police Department is moving away from the post-Katrina black and gray uniforms and they're doing so in a very democratic fashion. The officers voted to return to their previous navy blue look, according to Slidell Police Chief Freddy Drennan. Beginning Friday, August 1, the navy blue uniforms will be worn on the street by officers who, according to Chief Drennan, voted unanimously to return to their pre-Katrina uniforms. Chief Drennan says that it was a decision based as much on logic and good business sense as it was on a desire to return to the older look. The chief says that officers were having problems getting new and replacement uniforms, as there was an apparent shortage of material to make the black and gray shirts and pants. He adds that the material also did not hold up too well and showed signs of wear quickly. "As chief, I not only have to listen to the public and their suggestions, but I have to listen just as hard to the wonderful men and women who work here," said Chief Drennan. "And they made it loud and clear that they wanted to go back to the navy blue uniforms." |
