(NEW ORLEANS)---A federal jury in New Orleans has rejected a claim by a former St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office deputy that she was discriminated against during her employment at the agency, according to the St. Tammany Sheriff's Office. Capt. George Bonnett reports that the jury affirmed the sheriff's office contention that Christy Admire, now employed by the Covington Police Department, was denied promotion because she was within six months of a disciplinary action and was promoted twice subsequent to that six-month period. Capt. Bonnett says that Admire alleged that gender discrimination led to her being passed over for promotion while she worked in the St. Tammany Parish Jail. He adds that the court rejected on summary judgment another claim by Admire that she was discriminated against when she tried, but failed, to qualify as a criminal patrol deputy. Capt. Bonnett also says that in rejecting Admire's claim, the jury found that the St. Tammany Sheriff's Office has policies in effect which "ensure the fair and equal treatment of all employees." |
