(TICKFAW)---A California man has been arrested and charged in connection with a hit and run two-vehicle accident in Tangipahoa Parish that left a Slidell man dead and a passenger in his vehicle injured, according to the Louisiana State Police. State Police Troop L TFC Louis Calato reports that 50-year-old Lawrence Riskas of Foster City, California, has been charged with vehicular homicide, first degree vehicular negligent injury, hit and run driving, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated, and driving under suspension. The accident happened shortly after 6:15 p.m. on Monday, July 28 on I-55 near Tickfaw. TFC Calato says that a vehicle driven by Riskas tried to overtake and pass a vehicle driven by the victim, 72-year-old Thomas Hudson of Slidell. He says that the Riskas vehicle hit the left rear bumper of Hudson's vehicle, causing it to strike a retaining wall, overturn, and eject Hudson. TFC Calato says that Riskas then proceeded to flee the scene, with witnesses providing information to troopers that eventually led troopers to locate the Riskas vehicle in Hammond. Riskas was then taken into custody. According to TFC Calato, Hudson was pronounced dead at the scene by an investigator with the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office. A passenger in the vehicle, 64-year-old Lucile Hudson of Slidell, was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for moderate injuries. |
