(SLIDELL)---One Slidell juvenile was wounded and another was arrested after the handgun they allegedly stole from a vehicle went off, wounding one of the suspects, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office.

St. Tammany Sheriff's Office Capt. George Bonnett reports that the wounded juvenile was transported to Slidell Memorial Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound below the right eye and the suspected shooter was charged with negligent injury and simple burglary.

The burglary and shooting occurred late Sunday, July 6, on Meredith Drive in the Slidell area. Capt. Bonnett says that deputies responding to a shooting call found the juvenile lying in front of a residence with a gunshot wound below the eye. Capt. Bonnett says that the suspect told deputies that he and another juvenile had apparently stolen the handgun from a nearby vehicle earlier in the evening.

Capt. Bonnett says that the suspect told deputies that they were playing with the handgun when it went off. Capt. Bonnett says that deputies recovered the pistol from a nearby abandoned residence and made contact with the second juvenile, who returned to the scene and surrendered to deputies.
