(LIVINGSTON)---After deliberating for two hours, a Livingston Parish jury has found a New Orleans man guilty of second degree murder, armed robbery, and attempted armed robbery stemming from a 2005 incident in Albany, according to Livingston District Attorney Scott Perrilloux. Perrilloux reports that upon sentencing on July 17, 21-year-old Medjoure Chefney faces a mandatory second degree murder sentence of life imprisonment at hard labor without the benefit of parole. The jury reached its decision on Thursday, June 26. The incident occurred on May 13, 2005, on Ed Brown Road in Albany. Perriloux says that Chefney approached the victims, Shun Alberts and Chris Bellazar, and robbed them. He adds that Chefney then shot Alberts in the neck, fatally wounding him, and shot Bellizar in the leg. Perriloux says that Chefney was later arrested after fleeing to New Orleans. |
