(SLIDELL)---A Slidell man has been arrested and charged in connection with a case where he allegedly molested the daughter of a distant family member while she was visiting the area earlier this year during Mardi Gras, according to the Slidell Police Department. Slidell Police Capt. Kevin Foltz said that 47-year-old Joseph W. Bayona has been charged with molestation of a juvenile stemming from an incident that allegedly occurred on February 5. Capt. Foltz said that family members apparently came to stay with Bayona during Mardi Gras. He added that when his distant relatives returned home, the 11-year-old victim told her father that on the night of Feb. 5, she was awakened by Bayona as he was allegedly touching her inappropriately. Capt. Foltz said that the victim's father contacted Slidell Police with the allegations and that an investigation into the alleged incident began. Capt. Foltz said that the investigation culminated with Bayona turning himself in to police on Friday, June 6, after learning that a warrant for his arrest had been issued. |
