(FRANKLINTON)---One person is dead and two are injured as a result of a car-truck collision in Washington Parish near Franklinton, according to Louisiana State Police Troop L. The accident occurred shortly after 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, June 8, near the intersection of LA 16 and LA 450 near Franklinton. TFC Louis Calato reported that a truck, driven by Shawn R. Newman of Jefferson, was apparently veering back and forth onto both lanes of LA 16. He said a car, driven by 26-year-old Lovie Miller of Amite, apparently tried to avoid the truck and both vehicles sideswiped each other. TFC Calato reported that a passenger in the car, 24-year-old Sheila Burks of Amite, was pronounced dead at the scene. Both Newman and Miller were taken to a local hospital where both are recovering from injuries. TFC Calato said that when Newman is released from the hospital, she will be charged with vehicular homicide, first degree vehicular negligent injuring, driving while intoxicated, and driving left of center. |
