A two-vehicle accident in Tangipahoa Parish has left a Ponchatoula woman dead, according to troopers with Louisiana State Police.
It happened shortly after 1:20 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, on LA 22 near the intersection of Thibodeaux Road. State Police indicate that a vehicle, driven by 80-year-old Lemelda Lavigne of Ponchatoula, was turning onto LA 22 when it was struck by a vehicle driven by 23-year-old Robert Gautreau of Gonzales.
Lavigne was transported to North Oaks Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Gautreau was not injured in the accident.
State Police indicate that the accident remains under investigation and that alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.
