(COVINGTON)---Covington Police report that a Madinsonville man and a juvenile have been arrested on armed robbery charges after allegedly brandishing a handgun at victims riding in a car along a street in Covington.

Covington Police Lt. Jack West says that 18-year-old Tavaris Miguel Pam of Madisonville was charged with armed robbery, simple battery, and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. He adds that a 16-year-old male juvenile was charged with armed robbery, illegal use of a weapon, possession of a handgun by a minor, curfew violation, and child in need of supervision.

It happened at around 2 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, near the intersection of N. Columbia St. and 32nd Ave. in Covington. Lt. West says that a Covington Police officer noticed a car stopped at that location with Pam and the juvenile apparently standing next to the vehicle with the juvenile holding the handgun.

Lt. West says that the pair fled from the area upon seeing the officer. Covington officers and a St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office K-9 unit found the suspects nearby. Lt. West says that those inside the vehicle told police they were driving along the street when the suspects allegedly robbed them.

Lt. West adds that the incident remains under investigation.
