A Loranger man has been arrested and charged in connection with a counterfeiting case where fake currency was allegedly being passed throughout Tangipahoa Parish.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office reports that 35-year-old Ron Michael Rainey of Loranger has been arrested and charged with monetary instrument abuse.
Sheriff's officials indicate that detectives learned that fake $20 and $100 bills were being passed throughout the parish. Detectives were able to gather information and apparently made a controlled purchase of the fake currency, leading to the execution of a search warrant at Rainey's residence.
Officials say that during the search they obtained two computers as evidence and took Rainey into custody. Detectives say that any information obtained during the investigation will now be forwarded to the U. S. Secret Service.
