(SLIDELL)---Slidell Police report that quick thinking on the part of the victim and quicker reaction on the part of store employees led to the arrest of a Slidell man in connection with a purse snatching case.
Slidell Police Capt. Kevin Foltz says that 22-year-old Beltran D. Perez of 3233 William Tell St. in Slidell has been charged with theft under $300 and is being held by federal officials to determine his legal status.
Capt. Foltz reports that the incident occurred shortly after 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, at a Winn Dixie store in the 3000 block of Pontchartrain Dr. in Slidell. Officers responding to the call learned that the victim, a 69-year-old Slidell woman, apparently noticed her purse missing from her shopping cart after looking for some items. The officers learned that she immediately reported it to store employees, who obtained a description of the suspect.
Capt. Foltz says that employees waited near the exits for the suspect, who was later found apparently hiding in a restroom stall. Officials say that employees detained Perez until he could be taken into custody, with the same amount of money the victim reported in her purse allegedly found in his pockets.
