(COVINGTON)---Covington Police say that a 17-year-old man, recently arrested as part of a drug roundup, has been arrested, again, for his alleged role in the armed robbery of a Covington woman. Covington Police Lt. Jack West reports that 17-year-old Damon Joseph Jerry of Covington has been charged with armed robbery and aggravated battery. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Wednesday morning, May 28, in the 100 block of 21st Ave. in Covington. Lt. West says that as the victim, a 24-year-old woman, was walking, Jerry allegedly walked up behind her and began beating her with a metal rod. Officers indicate that Jerry was apparently able to rip away the victim's purse and flee from the scene. Lt. West adds that a K-9 unit from the St. Tammany Sheriff's Office was apparently able to track Jerry back to a residence on N. Madison St., where clothing matching that described by the victim was found hidden in front of the home. Lt. West says that Jerry was found inside the residence and that the victim identified him as her attacker. |
