Volunteers from correctional facilities nationwide are in the Bogalusa area this week to help construct a state-of-the-art playground near the B. B. "Sixty" Rayburn Correctional Center.
The project is called "Make A Smile" and is being organized by the National Association of Wardens and Superintendents and the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation, two groups that donated various necessities and food items to corrections employees and inmates after Hurricane Katrina. Both groups are now expanding their efforts to help children and the elderly, as well.
The Bogalusa playground will cost nearly $40,000 to build and will offer a covered pavilion for park visitors to enjoy. If the weather cooperates, the playground and pavilion should be completed by Friday, May 9. A second playground facility is also under construction in New Orleans.
