Tom Planchet: January 2009 ArchivesCalling him the 19-foot assassin, CBS Sportsline's Anthony Wilson makes the case that only one other forward has a real argument at going over David West. You'll have to click on CBS' link to find out who that is, and likely it would surprise you. In the meantime, I'm guessing that the "19-foot assassin" means that Wes... Don't look now, but remember last year when the Hornets had a gaudy record, but no one took them seriously and no one had them as a top contender to win it all. Well, it's happening again. ESPN's John Hollinger has a short blog entry on which 5 teams can possibly make inroads to the league's "Big 4." Well, the Hornets don't make eit... Boy, it seems like just a year ago that we were bemoaning the lack of attendance at Hornets games and speculating that a new lease deal would give them a loophole to leave. At the time, I did not think that the Hornets could become adopted by locals. I didn't think they could overcome the fall competition with the Saints and LSU, along with high school... Oly Sandovar of Hoops World.com makes the same point I made a few weeks ago. Actually, the Hornets are on pace for a very similar record as last year - the trouble is, the elite teams (Boston, Orlando, Cleveland and the Lakers) have all stepped up a notch and are on a pace for 60+ wins. That, plus they've all ha... At least that's what one newspaper in Fort Worth, Texas thinks. They quote Hornets coach Byron Scott as saying Paul reminds him of Magic Johnson. It is amazing that a barely six-foot guard gets triple-doubles, meaning double-digit rebounds. ...
At least that's according to NBC Sports web site. They say that even Tracy McGrady admits he shouldn't start and the writer says it's a crime Chris Paul may not be tabbed as the starter. I find it crazy that David West doesn't even show up among the top forwards in the voting, but NBC gives an edge to Pau Gasol in the battle between the two for a key West All-Star spot. ...Jannero Pargo could just retun to the NBA for the second half of the year and help some team make a good run in the playoffs. Nothing I've read puts the Hornets in the market for the streak shooting guard. If Rasual Butler and Antonio Daniels play like they did against the Clippers, it may not be needed, but that's a big if and Pargo is a good scoring option if your first team... John Genessey of the Deseret News writes about the supposed rivalry between Deron Williams and Chris Paul and points out that although Paul has gotten the ink, Williams holds an 8-2 edge in the series. ...Marc Heisler of the Los Angeles times says that after weeks of looking for a legitimate contender in the West, the Lakers may have found one in the Hornets, who looked a whole lot better than they did in two earlier losses to L.A. ...That's what Bleacher Report.com wants to know. He states the case for CP3 - as if it needed it stated. I have to say, I haven't seen too much McGrady this year, but have seen enough of Paul to know that he deserves to be first-team All-NBA and a starter in the All-Star game. ...FOX Sports' Charley Rosen gives the plusses and minuses of the Hornets attempt to compete with the Lakers in the NBA's Western Conference and finds the negatives outweigh positives. ... |
