Hornets vs. Bucks: Hornets hold on, win 95-94

9:32 PM Fri, Feb 27, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

FINAL
And to think, Tyson Chandler almost wasn't in uniform with the Hornets on Friday night.

Chandler, whose trade was nixed by Oklahoma City a little more than a week ago, tipped in a David West miss with 3.3 seconds to play, giving the Hornets a 95-94 win over the visiting MIlwaukee Bucks.

The 7-foot-1 center, quiet for much of the game, got just enough of a palm on West's miss to tip the ball o...

9:25 PM Wed, Feb 25, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

FINAL
It took a big play from New Orleans' other All-Star for the Hornets to hold on against Detroit.

David West grabbed a key rebound and hit two free throws with 6.7 seconds to play and the Hornets held on the defensive end to give New Orleans a 90-87 win Wednesday night at the New Orleans Arena.

Chandler speaks about trade and nixing of the move

12:05 PM Mon, Feb 23, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

Tyson Chandler keeps a blog. What, you didn't know?

Well, in his latest blog, he discusses the trade, where he was when it happened and what his thoughts were when it was voided.

As always, Chandler gets it. He understands the 21st century and the tools that he can use to get his voice and opinion out.

Chandler expected to play against Kings

10:57 AM Mon, Feb 23, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

Remember the last time Tyson Chandler played a basketball game? It was in January -- mid-January. In fact, it was MLK Day.

Well, he's ba-ack! Chandler is expected to play today, his first game since sustaining an ankle injury on Jan. 19.

The Hornets are 7-9, not including the game he was injured in, since Chandler left the lineup.

Hornets stay pat in ESPN Hollinger rankings

10:36 AM Mon, Feb 23, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

ESPN's John Hollinger has a daily NBA rating matrix. I'm sure you've seen it before. I know you have - I've posted his ratings in prior blogs.

Anyway, the Hornets, despite a two-game skid, are still at No. 12. Considering they're playing with Tyson Chandler and Morris Peterson as well as having Hilton Armstrong with a sore back, I'd say that's not a bad thing.

I...

Hornets vs. Magic: Double-Double machine nets another....double-double

9:34 PM Wed, Feb 18, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

FINAL
NEW ORLEANS ― Chris Paul made Hornets fans everywhere forget about Tyson Chandler, at least for one night.

The Hornets All-Star point guard put his team on his back, scoring 36 points, dishing out 10 assists and grabbing six rebounds to pace New Orleans to a 117-85 win over Eastern Conference contender Orlando.

New Orleans' 117 points was a season high, eclipsing the 116 it scored in a win ov...

CP3 on NBA's mind: Hornets guard in half of league's top 10 plays

10:30 AM Mon, Feb 16, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

OK, we've all seen Chris Paul and his magic.

In Sunday's All-Star game, the Hornets guard was in full form, providing many highlight opportunities for himself and other players.

And NBA.com apparently noticed that, too. In the site's Top 10 plays from the All-Star game, Paul is an integral part in half of them.

Unfortunately, NBA.com doesn't allow you to embed the video, so >> Continue reading: CP3 on NBA's mind: Hornets guard in half of league's top 10 plays

Hornets shopping Chandler? ESPN thinks so

10:19 AM Mon, Feb 16, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

The other WWL - ESPN is the World Wide Leader in sports, or so it claims - believes the Hornets are shopping center Tyson Chandler as a way to fit back into its salary pants. The belt, apparently, is a little too tight.

ESPN's Marc Stein reports that the Hornets and Oklahoma City could be in talks about some swaps.

To find the ...

Hornets vs. Celtics: Hornets fall 89-77 in valiant effort

9:32 PM Wed, Feb 11, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

FINAL
Even with Chris Paul back, New Orleans didn't have enough to keep up with defending NBA champion Boston for a full 48 minutes.

After going into the fourth quarter tied, Boston ripped off a 16-3 run to begin the final 12 minutes and cruised from there.

And New Orleans couldn't do anything about it.

The Hornets fell 89-77 Wednesday night at New Orleans Arena in front of 18,080 fans.

NBA weekly ratings: Hornets sinking, but are they sunk?

10:43 AM Mon, Feb 09, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

A few sites have put out their power ratings already and the loss of Chris Paul, along with a four-game skid that recently ended, shows that the Hornets are, at best, a little better than average right now.

Athlon Sports has New Orleans coming in at No. 10.

ESPN's 'Hollinger Ratings'<...

Hornets vs. Timberwolves: Final - Hornets win 101-97

8:35 PM Sun, Feb 08, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

FINAL
New Orleans took the script from its Friday night win and applied it Sunday.

Only this time, the Hornets picked up the win without the 3-pointers.

New Orleans took an early lead, lost it for much of the game and then took it towards the end before holding on for a 101-97 win over Minnesota.

Friday night against Toronto, New Orleans tied a franchise record with 15 3-pointers.

O...

Hornets vs Raptors: Final - Hornets win 101-92

9:10 PM Fri, Feb 06, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

Final
After a sluggish three and a half quarters, only one thing could help the Hornets get back in Friday night's game against Toronto.

Luckily for New Orleans, the 3-point shot is legal.

And it took full advantage of that fact, nailing 15 3-pointers to help the Hornets overcome a 8-point deficit with 6:54 to play in the game.

First Rasual Butler hit a trey. Then James Posey. Then Butler...

Bowen to start against Raptors

11:00 AM Fri, Feb 06, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

Ryan Bowen will start for the Hornets tonight against the Raptors, Head Coach Byron Scott said Friday morning before the team's shoot around.

Bowen hasn't started yet this season and has played in only six games. But his minutes have been creeping up the past few weeks.

The reason? Scott said he likes Bowen's energy and hustle.

"The thing we know about RB is he's going to play hard," Scott said. "Even when he's bent ove...

Hornets vs. Bulls: Hornets lose 107-93

9:39 PM Wed, Feb 04, 2009 |
Bradley Handwerger

Final
Byron Scott got answers.

They're not the ones he was looking for, however.

New Orleans played little defense and the offense was out of sync without Chris Paul and the Hornets fell 107-93 to the Chicago Bulls.

The Hornets shot 36.2 percent while allowing Chicago to make 56.2 percent of its shots. Every Bulls starter scored in double figures, led by Derrick Rose's 21 points.
