11-19 Hornets vs. Kings: New Orleans falls 105-96

Bradley Handwerger

(Final)
New Orleans is downed 105-96 at home to the Sacramento Kings.

The Hornets fall to 5-5 while the Kings improve to 5-8.

(2:51)
Yeah. I said it. The Hornets are starting to resemble the Saints right now.

Good season. Rope fans into caring. Then come out the very next season and lay an egg by underachieving.

There's little reason the Hornets shouldn't have been able to put away Sacr...

SI power rankings: Hornets drop there, too

11:41 AM Tue, Nov 18, 2008 |
Bradley Handwerger

Not that you didn't see this coming, what with losing four of their past six games, but SI.com dropped the Hornets from No. 4 to No. 8 its latest power rankings.

Whatever the reason, New Orleans isn't playing the type of basketball we're accustomed to seeing. They'll get a chance Wednesday night at the New Orleans Arena to ge...

Hornets fall in ESPN power rankings

5:49 PM Mon, Nov 17, 2008 |
Bradley Handwerger

The Hornets have lost four of their past six games after darting to a 3-0 start to the season. And ESPN has noticed, moving New Orleans down in this week's ranking.

But in a way, that's a good thing. ESPN respects the Hornets and expects them to be better. We'll see here in the next month if this team has the chops to get back going again.

...

Nov. 12 Hornets vs. Lakers: Final - LA wins 93-86

9:30 PM Wed, Nov 12, 2008 |

(Final)
New Orleans somehow made this interesting, cutting a huge double-digit deficit to 3 with 1:33 to play.

But Kobe Bryant hit a 3 as the shot clock expired, putting a dagger in this game with 1:08 to play.

Unbelievable 4th quarter by the Hornets. This says more about New Orleans, I believe, than the rest of the game.

Here's an interesting update.

Power rankings, get your NBA power rankings: Hornets No. 6

5:58 PM Mon, Nov 10, 2008 |
Bradley Handwerger

Well, ESPN.com has put out power ranking for the NBA and lo and behold, despite a 4-2 record with at least one bad loss, the Hornets rate No. 6

Per ESPN:
"Peja and Chandler weren't out of the lineup long ... and these days a home loss to Atlanta doesn't look nearly as bad as it sounds. Yet you get the sense that Coach Scott isn't thrilled with what he's s...

Hornets vs. Hawks: New Orleans loses 87-79, fall to 3-1

Bradley Handwerger

New Orleans lost for the first time this season, losing at home 87-79 to the Atlanta Hawks.

Chris Paul finished with 22 points and 11 assists in the loss, while Joe Johnson had 24 points and 7 rebounds for the Hawks in the win.

------------
(4:50 4th Quarter)
Atlanta has taken over in the fourth quarter. The Hawks are now outrebounding the Hornets by 10 and New Orleans has an uncharacteristically high 15 turnovers.<...

Paul picks up season's first honor

3:25 PM Mon, Nov 03, 2008 |
Bradley Handwerger

And the awards and recognition, they keep coming for Chris Paul.

New Orleans' point guard extraordinaire was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for the season's opening slate of games. It's the fourth time Paul has picked up the honor and it likely won't be the last this season.

Paul becomes just the second Hornet to win the award four times. Larry Johnson is the other.

"I am thankful for this honor," Paul ...

Hornets vs Cavs: final 104-92 hornets win

Bradley Handwerger

(2:07 4th Quarter)
Quickly here, New Orleans is on a 19-4 run that began when Chris Paul made two free throws after being fouled. Those shots made it 81-79 Cleveland.

The score now?

New Orleans leads 96-85.

This, I believe, is Hornets basketball. Close games that turn into Hornets wins with good fourth quarter play. It has happened in three games this season.

This will be my last post until after the game....
