Boy, it seems like just a year ago that we were bemoaning the lack of attendance at Hornets games and speculating that a new lease deal would give them a loophole to leave. At the time, I did not think that the Hornets could become adopted by locals. I didn't think they could overcome the fall competition with the Saints and LSU, along with high school football Friday nights and then Mardi Gras. Boy, was I wrong. Of course, it took a near NBA Western Conference-best record, one of the game's top 3 players and a strong playoff run to get this team adopted, but they sure have been. Currently the Hornets rank 17th in the league in attendance, but that's up from about dead last at this time last year. Also impressive is that they fill up 98 percent of their smallish NBA arena each night out. The Hornets can't really go much higher than where they are in attendance, because even with sellouts each night, they'd only rank 15th. Still, you can see it in the community - people talking about the Hornets. Heck, my wife even knows who Chris Paul is. Isn't it great not to be talking about attendance. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |
