Ranking the NFL's games on their "watchability"

Dominic Bonvissuto of Sports Illustrated's Fan Nation Blog rates this weekend's NFL match-ups. He's now made my weekly rotation of blogs. Congrates to Dominic. However, I still prefer Big Daddy Drew's Jambaroo on Deadspin, but I'm not allowed to link to a column containing more profanity than "Good Will Hunting." Read more.

You might think I'm piling on with posting this one. You'd be absolutely right. I AM piling on against the Yankees. My dad hates it when I do this, especially when the targets are either A-Rod or Roger Clemens.

Pat Forde of ESPN.com breaks down a what-if? style match-up between the SEC and PAC-10 on the football field. The good news: SEC better overall.

The Mighty MJD, who writes 'The Debriefing' for AOL Sports, writes this insightful piece on Sunday's clash of the NFL titans, comparing the Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots to Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant in the days leading up to Wrestlemania III. If you've ever watched and enjoyed wrestling growing up in the 80s, it's a must read. Read more.

Reporter asks, "Where have you gone Aaron Brooks?"

Kudos to AOL Sports for coming across this one first. Bill Rhoden, great writer for the New York Times, not to mention a go to guy on ESPN's Sports Reporters, asked this question in his latest column. Read more. The best thing about the article? He's reminded of Aaron Brooks by what? The natural disaster in San Diego.

Here's the reason nobody's called Aaron Brooks, Mr. Rhoden: because he's an overrated, mistake prone quarterback who thought way too highly of himself and acted like nothing was ever his fault. This guy smiled so damn much after every sack, interception or blown offensive drive I believe #2 must have kept his own dentist on call 24/7 during his tenure in New Orleans.

I've never seen an athlete smile so much in the face of poor circumstances. That's not optimism, folks, that's Brooks saying, "Hey, I'm collecting another pay check. Lucky me!"

List: Cities in a sports slump -- No New Orleans!?

Sports Illustrated has a list of 10 towns across America mired in a sports slump and, surprisingly, New Orleans isn't one of them. Okay, they've got the stalwarts: Philadelphia, Cleveland and Buffalo. But also making the list are New York and Los Angeles. Huh? Sheer lunacy, SI. Read more.

And on the 8th day, God fashioned Josh Beckett's right arm

35 to 2 strikeouts-to-walks ratio. 1.20 ERA this postseason. Yep, Josh Beckett is otherworldly in late September and October. The tone was set early for the Red Sox, as Beckett fanned the first three batters and lead off hitter Dustin Pedroia (all 5'9" of him) hit a towering shot off the top of the Green Monster to give Boston a 1-0 lead.

The best part about last night? Having Eric Gagne coming out of the bullpen to close the game. Good decision by manager Terry Francona to send out the shakiest reliever on the team with a fat lead in order to build up his confidence.

Now, I could have linked to any game recap, but I chose to link to the Boston Globe's version if for no other reason than Dan Shaughnessy's video recap of the game. Shaughnessy, who made his bones with the whole 'Curse of the Bambino' schtick, looks and sounds like a man who found out his tires were slashed in the parking lot while giving the post-game recap.

It's like Shaughnessy finally realized, "Hey, these guys are now consistently good, there's a positive vibe around them. I can no longer hock my stuff about a curse anymore and generate massive revenue. Crud."

You LIVE in Boston, Mr. Shaughnessy. At least LOOK like you're having fun watching and reporting on your team crushing the opposition in a World Series game. Sheesh.
