Fish Stacked at Three-Lake Junction

Right where Lakes Borgne, St. Catherine, and Pontchartrain come together in Rigolet Pass is where you'll find the stacks of fish this weekend. Here's your information in a nutshell: (1) Fish early; (2) Fish the falling tide; (3) Fish on the bottom with live shrimp; (4)Fish with an old-fashioned "single drop hook;" (5) Fish straight up-and down--no casting, no twitching, no popping, no jerking, etc. because there are lots of post-Kartina snags at that location; (6) You'll take home a variety of fish--speckled trout, white trout, flounder, drum, sheephead, channel mullet, golden croakers, gafftop catfish, and even plain ol' hardheads! And I remind you once again. . .when fishing is this good and this easy, it's time to take the kids along. If you need up-to-the-minute fishing conditions, feel free to contact Capt. Kenny Kreeger at 985-643-2944. That's also the number to call if you want to book a charter. --Frank D

frank, do you know it is a falling tide before you get to the bridge? if you are under 90 bridge and current is going to the pass and not the lake is it a falling tide on the L&N as well? how much weight are you using? it seems very hard to get bait down to the bottom at the L&N. thanks for the reports. TRAVIS...IF YOU'RE FISHING IN EITHER OF THE PASSES--RIGOLETS OR CHEF--AND IF THE WATER IS HEADING OUT OF THE PASS "FROM" THE LAKE, YOU GOT A FALLING TIDE. NOW HERE'S THE CRITICAL TRICK...IF YOU GOT MORE THAN A 1 FOOT TIDAL RANGE AND THE WATER IS RIPPING EITHER IN OR OUT OF THE PASS, YOU'RE JUST NOT GOING TO GET THE BAIT DOWN TO THE BOTTOM! THE PASS IS WAY TOO DEEP AND THE CURRENT IS WAY TOO STRONG. REMEDY? MOVE TO ANOTHER FISHING SPOT THAT'S SHALLOWER. YOUR IDEAL TIDE RANGE FOR THE L&N TRAIN BRIDGE IS 4-TENTHS TO 8-TENTHS OF A FOOT. ----FRANK D
