Really Liking Lake Pontchartrain
August 03, 2006
I grew up fishing Lake Pontchartrain, catching Jax boxes full of croakers (which my family lived on at least 3 times a week every week) and lots of white trout (Momma mixed them with onions and celery and bell pepper and potatoes and fashioned them into fish patties!). So you can understand why, some 50-something years later, I still have a special affection for the lake (even though it destroyed my house and everything in it on August 29!). Recently Kenny Kreeger and I have been regularly hitting speckled trout, flounder; redfish and a ton of braggin-size sheepshead (which I dearly love fried, grilled, barbecued, bronzed, baked, blackened, and converted into mock crabmeat) in the lake. So if you want to get in on some close-to-home, easy, in-the-shade kinda fishing, launch at the foot of the Five Mile Bridge at Tite's old place and go no further than the North Draw fenders. Fish a Carolina rig with live shrimp and hold on! And bring the kids. ---Frank D

Mr. Davis, Thank you for good job done daily. You are the only person ever to assist Recreational fishermen. Many years ago, you challenge the levy board to build a fishing peer right by the lake front bridge. Katrina took some part of it away. Please, we your help to ask the levy board once again to do the repair for us.The whole place is desserted and above all the levy police are taking the advantage of the situation to harass us (black). Once again thank you for your good civic duties.

Mr. Davis,
From the bottom of heart and boat, thank you for everything! I am a 1st time boat owner and have been out about 10 times since March, mostly with my 9 and 12 year old sons. While we haven't made the conversion from fisherman to fishcatchers, we love being on the water. We've had 2 good crabbing trips on Bayou Lacombe but the trout are still smarter than us! I continue to enjoy and study my copy of The Tackle Box Bible.
Looks like a trip drawbridge is in order!
thanks again!

Hi Frank,
Thank you and Mary Claire for many wonderful ideas throughout the years!
I want to make the cranberry sauce on back of the package and want to know safely how far can I safely make this ahead and it still be ok to serve on Thanksgiving?
Happy Thanksgiving to you and Mary Claire.
