Lake Pontchartrain Renamed Lake Ovaltine!"

5:21 PM Wed, May 14, 2008 |
Frank Davis

At first I thought we might have squeeked by. . .but after coming over the Five Mile Bridge this afternoon at around 2 o'clock I think I was definitely wrong! The river water has moved up to the Five Mile Bridge and the Railroad Trestle! From atop the bridge it's a dirty, creamy, partially grey, murky, chalky, chocolatey color and hue. How any kind of fish could be comfortable in that "liquid" totally amazes me!
Just an observa...

Whoa! Algae Blooms Showing Up, Y'all!

7:33 PM Tue, May 13, 2008 |
Frank Davis

Just when we thought that maybe the river water from the spillway wasn't going to affect the lake all that much, along comes the first of the suspected summertime algae blooms. The green slime forms on the lake's surface when the water temperature gets up into the 80s. It's all the result of the massive amounts of nutrients (fertilizer, for lack of a better word) that enters Pontchartrain and adjacent waterways from the spillway flow. Just ...

If you watched my Fishin' Game Report yesterday you saw us catching some nice speckled trout--not a lot of speckled trout, but speckled trout nontheless. And for the record, we were fishing the south end of the trestle. . .even in spite of the 5 to 6 foot waves!
If you're wondering how that happened, I can't tell you. I'm not that proficient a marine biologist. But as fishermen, my buddies and I believe that the fresh w...

Back-A-Town Chicken Recipe Question

10:39 AM Mon, Jan 29, 2007 |
Frank Davis

I got this this morning from Mary J. Figured a lot of others might be wondering about the same thing. So here's the answer:

Re: Frank's Back-A-Town Chicken
How many servings to this recipe?

Dear Mary J.,
The truth be told, how many folks this recipe will feed depends entirely on who's coming to dinner. If you got a bunch of big eaters...plan for 4.(maybe even 3). If, though, your dinner guests are, like, no...
