Cash for Clunkers a boom for local auto dealers

Local automobile dealers said they're seeing a big boost in traffic, thanks to the Federal, 'Cash for Clunkers' program, according to the Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association.

Thursday night, the Federal government shut it down, saying the money had already run out.

But Friday, in Washington, Congress took steps to keep it going, at least through the weekend.

After hours of confusion about whether the Cash for Clunkers program had run out of money, it was game on again Friday for car dealers, TV stations and newspapers, who had worried that one of the few bright spots for their industries would end after just one week.

Two men slain in Houma identified

HOUMA, La. -- Houma police have identified the two men found slain Tuesday night.

Police say the victims are cousins, 33-year-old Michael D. Herbert of Houma and 25-year-old Michael Gerard Herbert of Belle Rose.

The men were found shot to death on the floor of the living room of Michael D. Herbert's one-bedroom apartment.
