Looking for hot, melting, glorious Saints news from morning practice?
Here you go:
Injury Report:
WR Adrian Arrington once against failed to participate in practice, going through team walk through before heading over to the trainers.
LT Jammal Brown walked off mid practice with a stomach ailment.
WR D'Juan Woods had his abdomen wrapped with ice mid practice.
The Practice Observation
- During pass 7-on-7 early, WR Robert Meachem made a nice catch in front of CB Jason David that grabbed several ooh's and ah's from the overflow crowd.
- Also during early 7-on-7, WR Skyler Green made a beautiful double move, juking out CB Leigh Torrence before catching the pass in the end one and QB Mark Brunell delivered a perfect pass to WR Courtney Roby in the end zone.
- During Inside drill, DE Paul Spicer knocked down RB Pierre Thomas after Thomas sidestepped another defender. Both made nice plays.
- RB Herb Donaldson made a tremendous cut through an opening around right end, gaining about 25 or 30 yards.
- One play that stood out during the first team period came when DE Will Smith came around the backside and sacked QB Drew Brees. On the same play, CB Tracy Porter made a nice play to break up the pass from WR Devery Henderson's hands.
- Also in team, QB Joey Harrington worked with the second team offense but that didn't help TE Buck Ortega, who dropped several passes.
- On the second time the first team defense went out, CB Jabari Greer took the place of CB Randall Gay.
Other Observations:
The punting competition looks shaky for incumbent Glenn Pakulak. Most of his kicks were short and wobbly and weren't exactly directional exceptional.
Fifth-round draft pick Thomas Morstead, on the other hand, had several nice, long spiraling punts. He had some clunkers, but he appears to be ahead right now just on the "eyeball test."
Overheard at Practice
An unidentified fan was not happy with the lack of hitting the Saints have done thus far. While I'm sure many want the same thing, I'm not quite sure they share the same feelings.
Sayeth the fan: "They need to start hitting, man. I want to see somebody get hurt.
How'd the Punt Returners Do?
Reggie Bush, Tracy Porter and Skyler Green took most of the reps as punt returners today. Suffice it to say Bush won't have much of a problem holding off his competitors.
Bush fielded every punt cleanly - the short ones, the long ones, the wobbly ones.
Porter caught the first one well, but he had issues with the another one, bobbling it before dropping it.
Green caught the first one, but let another one - albeit woefully short - drop in front of him before it bounced up and hit him. It would have been a turnover.
What's Next?
As of now, with the weather holding up nicely, the Saints will practice outside again at 4:20 p.m. It is, of course, open to the public as long as it's outside and not in the indoor facility.
If this changes, we'll let you know on the blog and via our Twitter account
