Halloween... A Trick or Treat?

8:24 AM Fri, Oct 30, 2009 |

Conditions really aren't all that scary today. Skies will be variably to mostly cloudy and that should continue into the night. With the clouds blocking the moon, there should be very limited werewolf activity tonight. Highs today will stay in the mid to upper 60s. Northeast to east winds are keeping the tides about one and a half feet above normal. Consequently, very minor blooding... a mean very minor flooding occurred at high tide. Wi...

Mostly Cloudy, Cooler

7:50 AM Thu, Oct 29, 2009 |

It will be variably to mostly cloudy today as north and northeast winds usher in cool marine layer of air. We should remain dry for most of the region. There will be a chance for spotty drizzle late tonight and early tomorrow morning. Temperatures tomorrow will warm a bit as winds will shift to the east and southeast.

More Temperature Swings Coming

9:05 AM Wed, Oct 28, 2009 |

Relatively warm conditions will build across the region today. Highs should climb into the upper 70s for most areas. South winds will shift westward later today and eventually to the north tomorrow and that will send temperatures downward with highs tomorrow only in the lower to mid 60s. That won't last long. Another surge of warm air will move in Friday into Saturday and so it goes this time of year. We had rain showers and a few isolate...

Clouds (and a Few Showers) Hanging Around

8:28 AM Tue, Oct 27, 2009 |

Low pressure off the Carolina coast provided plenty of low level moisture for Hampton Roads last night and early this morning. Showers and a few isolated storms rolled through early and the skies will be mostly cloudy for most of the day. Temperatures are mild and should stay in the mid 60s. Lows tonight will fall into the upper 50s and showers will likely return to the region.

A coastal low off the southeast U.S. coast will bring chances for showers later today over North Carolina and could produce a few showers over Hampton Roads by late afternoon or evening. The better chances for isolated to scattered showers will come later tonight through Tuesday morning. Highs for both days will be in the mid 60s.

Another Weekend, Another Shot at Wet Weather

5:34 PM Fri, Oct 23, 2009 |

Here we go again. After a fantastic stretch of weather this week, the weekend is here and so is another shot at showers or storms. The pattern is progressive through the weekend. We aren't looking at a stalled coastal low washing things out. No, this time our best shot at rain is due to a cold front that will push through late Saturday and move of the coast. Temperatures will be warm ahead of the front with winds blowing from the south at...

Tides High, Temperatures Low

8:15 AM Sat, Oct 17, 2009 |

This morning's high tide cycle produced minor to moderate flooding as water levels averaged 1.5 to 2 feet above normal. The tides are staying above normal thanks to steady north to northwest winds blowing 10-20 mph. Skies should continue to be variably to mostly cloudy. Temperatures today are expected to stay in the mid 50s.

...

Cool and Damp... Again

8:31 AM Fri, Oct 16, 2009 |

A steady north and northwest wind is keeping temperatures below normal and tides above. A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect as tides are generally expected to run 1 to 1.5 feet above normal. These levels could produce some minor flooding around the high tide this afternoon and evening. Skies will likely remain mostly to variably cloudy today and patchy drizzle will be possible. Highs should stay in the upper 50s.

...
