Storms that develop will be capable of producing locally heavy rain. Highs today will reach the mid-upper 80s. We are watching Tropical Storm Danny closely. This morning, the forecast guidance was still in close agreement that the center of the storm would remain offshore, sparing the region the worst of the storm. Don't drop y... Expect more hot weather today and plenty of sunshine. Highs will be back up in the upper 80s to lower 90s across most of the region. There will still be a slight chance of a stray shower or storm this afternoon. To our southeast, over 600 miles away, Tropical Storm "Danny" continues to spin and it may be gaining strength. ...Skies will be mostly sunny for much of area today. Later this afternoon there may be a few stray showers or a storm but the chances are fairly low. Southwest winds will drive temperatures back above normal with highs topping out around 90. ...All things considered, it will be fairly pleasant today across Hampton Roads. Temperature will be close to the normal highs in the mid 80s. There is a slight risk of a shower or storm this afternoon, but most areas will see partly to mostly sunny skies for the bulk of the day. To our southeast, north of the Lesser Antilles another tropical wave is lurking. ...As tropical storm Bill moves farther away from North America and makes a run across the North Atlantic Ocean, we will turn our attention to possible showers and storms for the next couple of days. Temperatures will be close to normal with highs in the mid 80s today, and couple degrees warmer tomorrow. High pressure will build in from the west on Monday, bringing in some drier conditions. ...Record rainfall across Hampton Roads Saturday led to flooded roadways as residents once again had to deal with blocked streets. ...But we're still feeling effects from Hurricane Bill. ...This morning, hurricane "Bill" packs winds of 120 mph with gusts to 150 mph. While the violent winds and heavy rain associated with the storm is still forecast to stay well to our east, we are already starting to see some impacts from the system. The main threats to our region will occur at the coast. Swells are building thanks to "Bill" and the high risk of dangerous rip currents will loom through the weekend. Heavy surf will be a concern... Highs today and tomorrow will be back in the lower to mid 90s near the coast, a bit warmer farther inland. The southwest and south winds will continue and the skies will be partly sunny with a chance of a stray shower or storm during the afternoon and early evening. Tropical Depression Ana, Hurricane Bill, and Tropical Storm Claudette, as evidenced by this morning's tropical update, the tropics are heating up. Claudette came ashore near Fort Walton Beach Florida early this morning. It will continue to produce rain as it moves northwestward into Alabama and Mississippi. As the storms develop, the slow movement of the downpours could produce more localized flooding. It is difficult to call exactly who will get the heaviest rain and who will miss it, but it appears the chances are better for heavier rain over eastern North Carolina. Isolated heavy downpours could impact any part of the... Through midnight this morning, the rain bucket at Norfolk International Airport recorded 2.72". By radar estimation, some parts of the Southside Hampton Roads picked up over six inches of rain yesterday. Needless to say that the ground is pretty well saturated for some areas and that additional rain today may quickly pool up again. We have more showers and storms in today's forecast. ...But at least it won't be as hot... ...Temperatures today will climb well into the 90s. Humidity will also be high making the hot day even more uncomfortable. But don't worry, cooler conditions are just around the corner. A front slipping through the area will bring about a wind shift to the northwest and highs tomorrow should be in the mid to upper 80s. ...With high pressure providing a warm southwest to west wind, and plenty of August sunshine baking the region, highs will climb into the upper 90s today. Some inland areas will top out above 100°. It will feel even hotter when you factor in the humidity, heat indices will range from 103 to 108° in most areas.
