Summer part II

4:36 PM Tue, Jun 02, 2009 |

Yesterday we took a look at a different way of thinking about summer and how the argument could be made that is should be from early May through early August. Today we look at why it could easily be considered the beginning of June through the end of August. Here is more on that.

Just like yesterday we will start by assuming that if we have 4 distinct seasons that each one should contain about 1/4 of the year, or about 90+ days.

Yesterday I talked about using the strength of the sun's rays as a guage for when summer should occur. Today let's use the argument that summer should be the 3 months (ie about 91 days) when the temperatures are the highest.

If we do that then you come up with a start of summer which occurs on June 1st and which ends on August 31st. In fact, that is how meteorologists think and why we now consider us in summer.

Tomorrow, an usual way to think of summer.
