June 2009 ArchivesWe should squeeze out another fairly pleasant day Wednesday, but the chances for isolated showers or storms will increase by late afternoon or early evening. Temperatures will continue to be a bit on the warm side, topping out around 90°. Skies will be mostly sunny early and become partly cloudy late. ...After a comfortable start to the day, we'll be in the 90s this afternoon. ...High temperatures in the upper 80s to lower 90s are a lot easier to deal with when the humidity is lower. That was evident Monday and will be the case Tuesday as our mainly clear weather pattern continues. It will be slightly warmer Tuesday with highs in the lower to mid 90s across the region. Humidity will build later Wednesday and into Thursday we will find the chances for isolated storms increasing. ...Appropriately enough in the run up to July 4th it will definitely feel like summer. ...A good deal of cloud cover during the day on Sunday kept temperatures down, but look for warmer temperatures through the work week. ...Looks like our luck will hold this weekend... ...Southwest winds blowing 5 to 10 miles per hour will drive temperatures into the lower to mid 90s this afternoon. With the heating comes the risk of stray showers or storms. The better chances for showers or storms will occur late tonight as a cold front slips through the Hampton Roads. ...High temperatures today will be above normal for the first time in four days. A sea breeze should keep afternoon highs in the upper 80s along the coast. Inland areas should be in the lower to mid 90s. The heat won't let up significantly anytime soon. North winds are combining with high astronomical tides to bring a threat of minor tidal flooding to the coast and lower Chesapeake Bay. It will be partly sunny with a slight chance of a shower or storm today. Temperatures continue to run a bit below normal, topping out around 80°. Enjoy the relatively cool weather now, the heat will soon return. ...For the next three days our weather will be relatively pleasant. I say typically because this year for example things have gone according to "normal". We talked about the warmest 90 days in terms of the average temperatures for both the air as well as the waters of the Bay and Ocean. We also looked at basing summer (or any season) on the calendar, and the problems associated with that. Today, my solution. ...We need the rain. ...Over the past three days we have looked at starting summer based on either the wamest temperatures of the air or water, or on when you will receive the most sunlight and have the best chance of getting tanned or burnt. When I think about summer I can think of 4 reasons upon which one could argue for summer to based upon. Every day this week I will look at a different reason, and then on Friday I will summarize the four. So, here is part one. ...A cold front slipped through Hampton Roads early this morning and the result is a gorgeous day with highs in the upper 70s, lower humidity, and plenty of sunshine.
