Scattered thunderstorms caused some damage across the area this afternoon. There were numerous reports of hail and one spot in Norfolk saw a wind gust over 60 mph that knocked down some large trees onto a few homes and cars. There is still a tornado watch for the area until 6 pm but the odds are that that will be cancelled by 5 pm as the threat has greatly diminished. So, what is in store next? Well, let's address that. I do expect that some scattered showers will try to redevelop tonight and there might even be a stray storm but with a cold front coming through overnight our chances for storms will diminish greatly through the night and during the day tomorrow. That leaves the big question as to what our chances for storms are the rest of tonight. Again, there is certainly a chance for another stronger storm or two but with the warm front lifting farther north the odds of anything tornadic are pretty low and I would think most of VA wouldn't see much in the way of strong storms either. 4 CommentsLeave a comment |

You guys spend tooooooooo Much time blocking regular programing REPEATING what is scrolling across the screen. We would rather hear you ONCE then get back to regular programing. PLEASE once we have seen the path we can put it together without your input over and over.........
EVERYONE PLEASE READ THIS
You (meaning viewers in general) say that you can read the scrolls at the bottom of the screen and want us to run just that. You say that we can do one quick cut-in and then be done with cut-ins and run a crawl. Here is the problem with that. There are THOUSANDS if not tens of thousands of viewers in Hampton Roads that either can't read or have poor vision and can't see the crawls properly.
Also, not everyone can read the crawls. There are thousands if not tens of thousand of viewers in Hampton Roads that either cannot read or have poor eyesight and can't see the crawls properly. Also, if we just did a quick cut-in and then ran a crawl all the people that tuned in late could potentially get killed.
So, now I hope you understand why we do what we do when severe weather threatens the area.

Thank you for breaking in during programming. I would rather miss a show than to be in the wrong place when a tornado hits. We were in Jackson,TN last February when a terrible tornado(s) touched down, they are nothing to play around with. Thanks again for making sure your viewers were aware. I just spoke with a co-worker in Great Bridge area, something definitely touched down and I'm sure they are very greatful for breaking into programming!
