March 2009 ArchivesNo, I am not referring to the sun the forecast today. A "ball of light" moved across the sky last night about quarter to ten local time. It was followed by a loud boom and was witnessed by many living along the coast of the mid-Atlantic from Maryland to North Carolina. So what was it? ...That best describes today. With, of course, changes coming. ...The back and forth continues... ...We face more chances for showers as we head through the weekend. This morning fog was the big issue. Temps are cooler behind a front that passed but warmer weather will return. ...We've seen some very light sprinkles early this morning. Through the day scattered light showers will be possible but there will also be breaks at times. Highs today will be near normal, generally in the lower 60s. ...Today will continue to be chilly with highs still well below normal. We should also remain dry, but not for much longer. ...Yesterday we had mostly sunny skies, northeast winds, and an official high of 46 degrees at Norfolk International. Like it or not, today's weather will be almost identical. Changes will come. ...It's happened every weekend in March! ...The 64-team NCAA Tournament starts today! Do you have your backets filled out? Here's what you can think about (weather-wise) as you decide whether Mizzou's defense is tenacious enough to get them past Memphis and UConn... ...Dense fog was widespread through the overnight and morning hours. Visibilities have been below a quarter of a mile for hours in many locations. Can you say "Pea Soup?" ...The rain wound down this morning and the skies will brighten this afternoon. We actually have a fair amount of sunshine mixing with some thin cloud cover for Wednesday. ...After a foggy, misty start to the day, we will catch a little break and then have good chances for another round of showers later this afternoon and tonight. Temperatures will also continue to be on the chilly side of normal today and tomorrow. Changes are coming! ...off the rain that is. ...And to think this time last week, we were talking about temperatures near 80 degrees! ...While we will face a chilly rain at times today and through the weekend. Folks waking up on the Eastern Shore, the Northern Neck, and parts of the Middle Peninsula found colder temps and mixed precipitation and snow. ...I didn't hear of the launch delay last night and went out looking for the space shuttle between 9:20 and 9:30 PM. It was a bummer that the launch was scrubbed, but I was happy that our local skies were as I thought they would be. ...I updated this entry to include information on the Space Shuttle launch tonight. If we are lucky, we might be able to see the shuttle as we look into the southeast and east skies within the first eight minutes of the launch. ...Today the highs will be close to normal. Near the coast, temperatures should top our in the lower 50s. It will be a little warmer farther inland. On most second Tuesdays in March, today's weather wouldn't warrant a second thought. Temperatures today however, will seem pretty chilly. ...West winds are blowing 15 to 20 mph, with gusts at times reaching about 30 mph. The downsloping winds coming down the mountains in western Virginia and North Carolina will bring one more warm day. ...Today, near record warmth. What gives with the temperature swings? ...Sunny and warm. So I'm making this blog about my nemesis--Daylight Saving Time. ...Temperatures are going up! This will be the kind of weekend that leaves the Chambers of Commerce for our cities grinning from ear to ear. After last weekend, I think we deserve it. ...Temps today are remaining below the normal, but all of that will change as we finish up the week and head to the weekend. ...While March came in like a lion in 2009 - it was nothing compared to 1980!
