October 2008 ArchivesThe weather for trick or treating this evening will be picture perfect. Highs today will reach the mid 60s across the region. Skies will be mostly sunny. During the bewitching hours... ...Monday night's rain was certainly a taste of fall. It was blustery and cold with several people commenting to me on just how miserable they thought conditions were. Today will be cooler than yesterday, and that trend continues into the new week... ...Rain fell over much of Hampton Roads today. It wasn't particularly heavy, but at least we got something measurable in the rain bucket. Through the afternoon update we recieved .09" with additional showers falling into the evening. Now it looks like... ...Just as we're settling into Fall, talk of thunderstorms? ...We have had our first cold blasts of Fall and the warm days will be fewer and farther apart. Today's temps are warmer than it has been, but they won't last. Another cool push of air will move in tonight. ......but hold on, things will settle down this week. ......of course it has to rain. ...After record heat and a dry stretch of weather, things really changed this afternoon and into the evening. The cooler weather settled in quickly behind the cold front. Now that the moisture has arrived, it really feels like late fall. ...
Yes, weather is a tradeable commodity... ...Notice anything else about our celestial satellite? ...Fall foliage is nearing peak in the Virginia mountains, and a return to fall-like temperatures in the forecast. ......by that I mean hop on board the temperature roller coaster. ...While we are not expected to break a record next week, it could be close! ......in the southwest? ...No, not here, but what's happening out west does have something to do with why our weather will be so nice... ...If you ask most people whether the water around here in the Bay and the Ocean is warmer in early June or early October you would probably find very few would give the correct answer. That's because early June is the beginning of summer break and meteorologically speaking is the start of summer, while mid October is well into Autumn. ...When you woke up Wednesday morning you were probably shivering. This morning, not so much. Why? ...Tonight we still have many hours to go before we see the overnight lows and readings are already dropping well down into the 40s in outlying and rural locations. Even spots in the city or by the beaches will get down near 50. What's the significance? ...It is tough to beat lots of sunshine and pleasantly cool temperatures. That's what we'll find across the region today as highs top out in the upper 60s (slightly warmer inland.) ...Enjoy the next few days. We can expect fairly sunny conditions with occasional passing clouds. Temperatures will see-saw a bit. Changes look to be coming... ...Looking for the most recent fall foliage reports?? Check out this site. ...Since it's October your mind might start drifting toward the former, but with this weather the latter is also an option. ...
The situation is dreadful. I came across something yesterday that really brought home the reality of the situation... ...Right now there is nothing but clear skies and comfortable temperatures in the forecast for Hampton Roads for many many days. We might see a bit of fog early in the morning on a couple of those days but in general things will be very quite. ...It's another beautiful day, and thank goodness... ......in my opinion the best month in Hampton Roads. My colleagues have written about this and I'm happy to join the conversation. Once again we're tracking strong storms through the area. ...I have always been a "four seasons guy", truly enjoying each month and the changing weather. Fall holds a special place in my heart. It might be football, a break from the heat and the humidity, or a September birthday that always seems to make me extra happy this time of year. But I know one of my favorite things is... ... |
