The tropical wave train is on track

10:40 PM Thu, Aug 28, 2008 |

Looking back over hundreds of years of climate history, we know that the first week of two of September is traditionally the height of the hurricane season. Right now it looks like this year is going to be no different than it should be.

Of course there is Gustav which is heading for the Gulf of Mexico and has residents all along the coast worried sick. Now Hanna has formed just a little bit behind Gustav and is expected to strengthen as it works its way from north of Puerto Rico toward the Bahamas and eventually, probably, toward the Southeast US. By the way, I am not saying it will make it to the coast, but it should at least head toward it, and time will tell what the long term path will be.

The reason I labelled this entry the Tropical Wave Train is because in addition to the storms I just mentioned, there are a couple of other tropical waves that either have, or soon will, come off Africa that have a very good shot at becoming storms. In fact, our computer models show that by next week we could have at least 3 storms all lined up in a row.

Only time will tell if that happens, but for now we need to be vigilant in keeping track of every disturbance.
