Eyeing the Tropics...

7:30 AM Mon, Jul 14, 2008 |

Bertha is close to Bermuda today, a new system is being watched closely in the middle of the Atlantic. The worst of Bertha will likely pass just east of Bermuda, but the island will still experience heavy rain and tropical storm force winds.

Bertha is also kicking up heavy surf for tiny island and the wave action is contributing to a high threat of rip currents along our coastline as well.

A new cluster of storms in the middle of the Atlantic is getting better organized and may be classified a tropical depression or possibly even a tropical storm later today. The Tropical Prediction Center is running models on the system and it looks to threaten the Lesser Antilles later this week. It could potentially develop into a system that could reach the U.S. mainland. It's way too early to call, but we will need to monitor this in the coming days.
