You've no doubt heard that saying before, and it sure is applicable around here lately. Maybe we should change it to "where there's fire there's smoke" because in this case most of us probably could care less about the fire aspect of this situation. It's the smoke that is bothering most of us. Now, granted, even though the fire itself is affecting some animals in the Dismal Swamp, there are thousands of unburned acres where wildlife can roam, but it is definitely the smoke that is on everyone's mind, and in their lungs !. The bad news is that even though the smoke seems to shift from day to day and even within each day, according to the experts it isn't going to go away for quite a while. Until it does, expect small shifts in the wind to continue to bring relief for some areas and new pockets of smoke to others. For example, the winds tonight will shift to a bit more westerly. That will blow the smoke back out of parts of Norfolk, Portsmouth and even the Peninsula where it has been especially heavy this evening, but blow it back into southern parts of Chesapeake and Virginia Beach, as well as really increasing the problem in Northeastern North Carolina. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |
You all keep talking about the southside... Newport News is covered in smoke tonight - the worse yet!
