Smoke headed south... then returning?

7:42 AM Tue, Jun 24, 2008 |

The cold front that pushed through this morning has ushered in a wind shift. Winds this morning have been from the north and northwest over Hampton Roads and the wildfire smoke has stayed to the south. There is an Air Quality Alert for Currituck, Camden, and Pasquotank counties in North Carolina.

Later this afternoon the winds may become light and variable with an eventual shift to the south or southeast. This could bring the areas of smoke back over parts of Hampton Roads.

It doesn't look like fire fighters will get much help from rain for the next few days. We will also find much warmer temperatures for the next 4-5 days.

Take it easy if you have smoke where you live or work. The poor air quality and the heat may make it difficult to perform strenuous activities outdoors.

We'll keep you updated on 13News.
