Over the past week, I had the opportunity to see two great shows! Last week, I went to the Reba and Kelly 2 Worlds 2 Voices tour at the Norfolk Scope. I have always had a wide range of musical tastes, everything from classical to country to rap - so this was a great opportunity to see two incredible performers on one stage. Needless to say, the show didn't let me down. It was incredible to truly see two different groups of people, country and pop, come together under one roof. Young kids jumping to "Since U Been Gone" and a slightly more mature crowd singing along to "Fancy." Of course, some folks, like me, remember when a lot of the Reba songs came out, or even when, gasp, Vicki Lawrence first sang "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia." (Okay, that was 1972, and before my time - but I do remember the 1981 movie.) And Kelly is incredible in "Behind These Hazel Eyes" and "Breakaway." Then last night, I went to the "Dancing with the Stars" show in Hampton. I have been a long-time fan of the show here on WVEC, and it was great to see some of the stars of the show on our own "ballroom" floor. Wayne Newton (born right here in Norfolk) sang his classic "Danke Schoen." Marie Osmond danced with her partner Jonathan Roberts, and did a couple routines from the show. And Joey Lawrence did several numbers with Edyta Sliwinska. It was also neat seeing some of the professional dancers, Alec Mazo, Derek Hough, Brian Fortuna, Kym Johnson, Louis Van Amstel, and Karina Smirnoff. At both events, I was also fortunate to meet some great fans of WVEC and 13 News - and very few gave me a hard time about the weather, or the Blizzard of 2008. :p Now, I can't wait for "Whistle Down the Wind" in a couple weeks! Thanks for watching! |
