Well, because I worked over the Christmas Holiday and then worked New Years Day as well, I took a few days off to have a little getaway with my wife and a few other couples that are friends of ours. We thought we might get some slightly warmer weather where we were heading. We were wrong. Instead, we missed what felt like summertime in Hampton Roads. Some of our group had business in Las Vegas at the huge Consumer Electronics show so we decided that would be our destination. Most of us don't gamble but we figured we would see some Broadway caliber shows, view the amazing architecture of the destination casinos, and enjoy some great restaurants. We also hoped for some milder weather. Typically this time of year Hampton Roads sees highs in the 40s. Las Vegas has average temps arouind 60. Instead, we visited during a monster storm that was affecting the western US. Las Vegas has wind warnings, while another part of the state saw a 165 mph wind gust. It was also in the 40s most of the time for a high temperature, with one day in the 50s. Meanwhile back in Hampton Roads it was in the 30s the afternoon that we left with wind chills in the 20s. Within a couple of days though, while we were "enjoying" windy and cold weather, around here there were near record highs. It just goes to show you that you can't count of the averages to occur all the time. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |
