Since yesterday I have consistently said that I thought we would get much less snow than everyone else. At one point last night I was saying about 1/2 inch (a dusting) for most of Southside while the "official" forecast was for 3-5 or 3-6". Even today while we stuck with the minor amounts the other forecasts only came down to 2-4". Well, I am starting to wonder if maybe I wasn't even a bit too high with my amounts. Holes are beginning to show up in the radar presentation where there is just very light now falling and those areas will continue to spread over us through mid evening. The big question now is whether the more moderate snow over central NC makes it here or gets shoved to the south. I'll know a lot more in a couple of hours but wanted to give you a first heads up that we could see a little less than originally thought. We also need to watch the temperature carefully. Readings are falling a bit more slowly at the surface, although they are plunging rapidly a few thousand feet up, which could also mean less snow sticks before everthing tapers off. 5 CommentsLeave a comment |
This storm is going to be a BUST. I see many dissapointed folks, but Jeff you are onto something the radar looks like it is drying up
I see holes in the radar also, but also see a BIG swath of snow heading this way from NC. I love snow, so of course I'm rooting for it to hold together and drop at least a couple of more inches here in Churchland. My kids are hoping for it also!!
Still holding out for the white stuff! We are armed and ready with snow boots and snow coveralls for the kiddos! Anxiously waiting in Va Beach!
Thanks Jeff for the good news regarding snowfall...why do people want large amounts...they really should look at the other states and see the tragedy a winter storm can bring...Once again we are "skating" weather disaster...Yipee.
tragedy? only when the uneducated masses attempt to be daredevils in it. its a holiday weekend, IF the storm hits, at least its at the best possible time traffic-wise.
