The Tiger's hopes for a championship were dashed last Saturday when they lost to the Oklahoma Sooners. With all the hoopla about college football and rivalries, its easy to get lost in the emotional highs and lows. But in the grand scheme of things, its really just entertainment. Don't get me wrong, I am a HUGE sports fan. I love the Missouri Tigers, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Blues, and the Chicago Bears. My heart has raced and crashed with Jeff Burton on the NASCAR tracks. But occasionally, I am reminded of what is really important. The love and support of family and friends. The security of this great nation thanks to the dedication and commitment of our service men and women. I am also mindful of how precious life is. Recently, dear friends of my family found that their three year old daughter has a brain tumor. Another buddy of mine lost his fiance in an automobile accident. As I write this, wintry weather to our north has claimed a dozen lives and another powerful storm is pounding the northwest U.S.. Take time through the holiday season to embrace those you care about. Make time for a friend you've let slip away. And finally, make a little time for yourself, think about what's most important to you, and give thanks for your blessings! |
