Was I really a pawn?

At the time, I felt terrible for them. Two women devastated by the death of one man: Thomas White. He was found shot to death last June in his home in Perquimans County. His daughter, Katherine Ann White, showed us inside the home where her father was killed. She explained she and her mother came home and discovered someone broke into the house, stealing money and jewelry.

A little Sweet'N Low goes a long way

Today I learned five packets of Sweet’N Low will get you a boat ride in Currituck County. We wanted to see the area of the Currituck Sound where the search is underway for 40-year-old John Martins, who was reported missing on Sunday. His abandoned boat later crashed into another vessel before marooning on a desolate shore.

There is hope for renters

A leaking ceiling... A noisy refrigerator... A running toilet. Homeowners pay for their own repairs, which can become obscenely expensive, but hey -- the fixes happen.

With renters, it's another story. It's up to the landlords to make the fixes. What happens when repairs aren't made, and the relationship heads south? You want to sue -- but how?

This is not a drill

Usually it looks like you've stumbled upon a Hollywood set. Victims covered in blood and guts, lying on stretchers with emergency workers swarming around them. Of course these are always emergency drills, never the real thing. Police, fire and the military hold these practice sessions frequently -- for when the big emergency hits.


For a little while last week, our stomachs dropped as we thought we might be facing the real thing....
