Story with a sideshow

11:42 PM Wed, Nov 28, 2007 |

Tonight, while photographer Andy Grossman and I were covering the search for murder suspect Shawn Ward in Chesapeake, I managed to make a complete fool of myself.

I'm a clumsy, completely uncoordinated person. I know this. My co-workers know this. I've managed to keep my pratfalls a secret from you, the viewing public. That was until today.

After standing outside for 5 hours, I'd begun to lose feeling in my feet. I was walking towards our truck to get another tape and battery for Andy, when the heel of my boot got caught in the cuff of my pants. It was catastrophic.

There, in front of a crowd of on-lookers and a majority of the Chesapeake Police Department, I fell flat on my face. There were quite a few laughs, some snickers and someone even managed to help peel me off the dirt.

I walked away from the incident unscathed, other than a bruised ego, ripped pants and a broken boot.

So, now you know Hampton Roads, I'm a klutz.
