The other day I reported on a new state law that is to go into effect in 2008 that suggests hospitals voluntarily report infection rate data to the state Board of Health. Most of the responses aren't about laws or infections, they're about the patient in the story who barely survived and who is in a wheechair, paralyzed, because of the MRSA infection that ravaged her body.
Thank you for the interview with the Bavry's. I hope it will help open the eyes of many helping to avoid such a tragic occurrence. I have know Margo for many years through the American Sewing Guild. She is an inspiration to many, she has never know the words, "I can't." She shows the world that she can. Larry is such a supportive, loving person, he is one in a billion. I hope you can do follow up interviews to keep MRSA in the spotlight, and to show the wonderful couple that was so severely hurt by carelessness in the medical field. You did a great story on Margo & Larry. They are two sweet people, both members of our church, Haygood Methodist. Margo writes a column for our monthly newsletter, sharing her faith walk with our congregation, and encouraging each of us to grow in our faith. She is a wonderful role model for folks who sometimes take the simple things in life for granted. Margo is always the first one to volunteer her time to help in any way she can. Right now she is doing publicity for our Women's Retreat coming up in February as she can do all this from her home computer. My husband and I were able to visit with Margo 2 or 3 time while she was in Richmond at MCV and also one of the nursing homes in Richmond. Although she was struggling with a great deal of pain and uncertainty concerning her health issues, she was cheerful and tried to look on the bright side. I thank God for sparing Margo and for giving Larry the strength to get through each day. Thank you for highlighting a very serious health crisis and the devastating effect it has had on the life of this wonderful couple.
As a retired medical professional, I and others have known for years that MRSA is truly nasty. Thanks for doing a personal report on it.
