Often when you a reporter is being introduced by Regina or David on the 11 p.m. newscast you'll hear them say something like "13 News reporter Brian Farrell/Sula Kim/Kristina Rohall/Andria Borba is just back from Franklin/Isle of Wight/Gloucester and joins us live with more on that story". For me, tonight was one of those nights.
After running to the Outer Banks to work on a story about beach erosion and Hurricane Noel, my photographer Andy Grossman and I found ourselves in a time crunch. We pulled back into the WVEC parking lot at 9:20 p.m....leaving us a mere 40 minutes to log, write and edit our story for Pilot 13 News at 10 (It's on LNC 5 on Cox Cable).
I handed Andy the finalized script and voice track to edit with 19 minutes until air. Andy hustled. With one minute to spare, Andy made a mad dash from editing to the control room. It's the kind of behind-the-scenes chaos we hope doesn't translate to your living room.
After just making our timeslot for Pilot 13 News at 10, Andy and I jumped in a livetruck and drove to Ocean View in Norfolk to introduce the erosion story from a beach for the 11 o'clock newscast. We were fighting the wind to get everything set up, but once again, made it on time for 11.
To Andy, I have to say thank you for working so hard and so fast. And to you viewers and readers at home, I hope tonight's blog gives you a better understanding of what it actually means when David and Regina say "13 News reporter Andria Borba is just back from North Carolina".
