Before you send your ratty old t-shirt to the trash, think about this... it still has value to others. Even our most trashed items of clothing, shoes and bedding can be reused, recycled, or refurbished. You may not dream of wearing that blouse with the stain on sleeve that won't come out. Overseas, in underdeveloped countries, that same blouse might be cherished. When you donate your goods to thrift stores like the ones operated by CHKD, they sort through the donations, reselling what they can. The rest of the items are baled and sent to impoverished countries where the items are bought in bulk and redistributed to people who can use them. Other discarded garments are turned into rags. The bottom line... your old stuff can still be used by other people so please don't sent it straight to the trash. Textiles take up about seven percent of our landfill space. Remember... the three R's: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! 1 CommentsLeave a comment |

Thank you, Craig! I didn't realize what happened to the thrift store clothes that don't get sold here. I will think twice about tossing old clothing in the gargage from now on!
