Oyster Restoration Story Airs Tonight!

8:25 AM Wed, Aug 29, 2007 |

I had the chance to spend time with members of the Army Corps of Engineers as they are working to restore Oysters in the Lynnhaven River and the Chesapeake Bay.
Their goal is to create another 111 acres of oyster reef sanctuary in the coming 3 years.

In mid-October, marine biologist Dave Schulte and his team will oversee the construction of the first 34 acres of reef. You can learn about the history of the Lynnhaven oysters and see what challenges lie ahead as the Army Corps of Engineers, the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, Lynnhaven River Now, and other groups join together in the effort to restore this important part of the Lynnhaven eco-system.
It's Our Watch airs tonight at 5:30 PM on 13News. You will also find posted on our website...extended interviews from the researchers, and how you can help make a difference.
