We've all heard the saying you realize how important something is until you lose it. That's definitely true when it comes to electricity. Last nights storms knocked out electricity to my home and thousands of others around Hampton Roads. I was at work when it happened and my husband called me to give me a heads up... that was around 8pm. I figured when I got home around 11:30 things would be back to normal. I was wrong. I had to call and wake my husband up because I discovered when the electricity is out the garage door doesn't open. Pretty much everything you're use to doing somehow involves electricity. A light to see if you're washing your face with soap or moisturizer... flashlight came in handy for that one. Oh yeah and the heat.. had to count on blankets and lots of them for that. And that alarm clock you count on yeah it doesn't work either. Luckily I have a 19-month old who helped me out there. But i have to say the most difficult part about not having electricity is not being able to have my cup of hot tea at home in the morning... had to go out for that one. Oh and when we opened the refrigerator to get my son's yogurt out for him we had to act fast so we lost as little of the cold air in there as possible. |
